#6 Jacky Weng Captures Project Boyz Power Vancouver Champion

Project Boyz Power Vancouver, organized by Fairchild TV in collaboration with TVB, has successfully concluded. This year's contestants are remarkable and incredibly outstanding. After a series of intensive training in all aspects, they have transformed from ordinary to extraordinary and managed to deliver a marvelous performance tonight. The finalists were tested on their catwalk, eloquence, talents, dancing skills, fitness, and acting. Ultimately, #6 Jacky Weng excelled in all challenges, and was selected as Project Boyz Power Vancouver Champion. He will also be awarded an audition opportunity at TVB and ready to embark on a journey to fame.

The eight charming finalists made their entrance as they partnered up with the celestial beauties of the Miss Chinese Vancouver team in the fun and energetic opening dance. Next, their eloquences were put to the test, as MCs Mary Lo, Gerald Yang, and Mandy Chan posed a series of witty questions, which definitely inspired their creativity and motivated them to think outside the box. Some of their responses were so hilarious that the audience instantly burst into laughter.

The grand introduction of the finalists was followed by their individual talent performances, as they charmed the audience with tremendous charisma and expressiveness on stage. With an extensive on-camera experience, #1 Aidan Chan’s K-pop rap song was exceptionally outstanding. #2 Albert Tse, whose mother is a Thai-Chinese, performed an innovative blend of traditional Wing Chun and Muay Thai kickboxing.

Self-taught dancer and YouTuber #3 Benjamin Hsieh brought to the stage an eye-popping Korean dance performance, manifesting youthfulness and boundless energy. Basketball team captain #4 Frankie Liu took the stage with a rendition of “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” with his melodious voice, followed by dexterous freestyle basketball tricks.

The youngest contestant #5 Harrison Wu showed off his musical talent confidently by impressing the audience with an enchanting and mesmerizing piano piece. The perfectly fit #6 Jacky Weng transformed himself into a professional stuntman and completed a series of jaw-dropping parkour moves, followed by a hip-hop dance with incredible power.

#7 Frank Wang’s love trilogy, formed by two contrasting elements, a song with dazzling solo guitar backing and as series of freestyle basketball tricks, took the audience down the memory lane to one’s sweet teens years. The handsome #8 Carson Cheng emerged onstage as a charming gentleman and partnered up with a young dancer to present an amazing Broadway umbrella dance.

Next up was the challenging yet amusing acting battle. Michael Tong’s surprise appearance in the scene was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the night. In addition to Michael, renowned multiple award-winning stage drama actress from Hong Kong Bonnie Lam, led the eight boyz to reenact several scenes from the legendary movie “The Banquet”. As much as Michael’s rich boss character Tsang Siu-Chi being the focus, Bonnie’s duo roles as the wife and Tsang Siu-Chi’s father also amazed the audience. Acting against two veteran actors, the boyz are translating their previous practice to 200% onstage effort to bring out the individuality of each role. Their splendid team performance wowed everyone, earning thunderous applause from the audience.

After a round of acting battle, a delightful dance scene was brought forward when the eight stylish young men partnered up with the graceful Miss Chinese Vancouver winners under the romantic song “Marry Me”, which manifested youthfulness and ignited enormous passions on stage. Switching to the hardcore fitness test, the contestants conquered various physical challenges within a given time, while showing off their strong physique and revealing the divine masculinity from within.

The first ever Project Boyz Project took an unprecedented step by inviting fans to be seated on stage, overwhelming the venue with cheers and amazements throughout the evening. This year, Fairchild TV involved fans and audience in a different manner by inviting each of the contestants’ fans to cheer for them on stage. At the same time, every attending guest could vote for their most favored contestant after each challenge with their cell-phones through a voting app. The results were shown instantly, which generated an uplifting atmosphere throughout the evening.

After several rounds of the competitions, one of the most handsome, charismatic and sought-after male artistes in Hong Kong, Michael Tong, graced the stage with the songs “Men should not let women cry” and “The Never Old Legend”, mesmerizing the audience with overflowing energy and emotions. Enchanted by his wonderful performance, the audience was caught off guard when Kung-fu lover Michael re-emerged as a Wing Chun master, and struck various moves with his well-built body. Whether it was his acting, singing, or kung-fu performance, Michael perfectly demonstrated what a truly charming gentleman should be.

After much deliberation, the panel of judges, including Senior Vice President of Fairchild Radio Ms. Brenda Lo, celebrated theatre performer and director Mr. Peter Poon, Miss Chinese Vancouver 2011 Ms. Erica Chui, along with modeling instructor Ms. Jessie Li, unanimously selected #6Jacky Weng as the Project Boyz Power Vancouver Champion. Project Boyz Power Vancouver Press Conference

Last year’s Project Boyz Power Vancouver organized by Fairchild Television in collaboration with TVB received overwhelming responses and positive feedbacks. Project B.P. not only provided young gentlemen with a platform to showcase their talents and unleash their passions for the performing arts, but also rewarded them with a chance to embark on a journey to fame. One of the Champions Jack Wang was offered a contract by Shaw Brothers (Hong Kong) Limited and officially launched his career in the entertainment industry in March. Jack is currently filming “Flying Tiger” with TV and movie stars Bosco Wong, Ron Ng, Michael Wong, and Hugo Ng. This year, Fairchild TV is partnering with TVB again to launch Project Boyz Power Vancouver 2017. The champion will be awarded a trip to Hong Kong and participate in an audition at TVB. Fairchild TV has invited the iconic Mr. Handsome Michael Tong as this year's special guest, who led the eight finalists onto the stage for their first public appearance at the press conference.

The perfectly fit Michael made a grand entrance at the press conference, and instantly overwhelmed the venue with extraordinary charm and charisma. Press conference emcee Mary praised Michel for an excellent job in “reversing his age”. Back in 2005, Michael visited Vancouver as the special guest performer of the TVB Fans Party. 12 years later, the debonair Michael returned to Vancouver with stronger masculinity. Michael shared his secrets in staying young, namely to adhere to a regular exercise routine, engage in calisthenics workouts, Muay Thai and Wing Chun. Most importantly is the enthusiasm to learn new skills and maintain a young mindset. Earlier this year, he switched his career base from China back to Hong Kong and was instantly offered a prominent role in the hit drama “Heart of Greed 3”. Michael revealed a glimpse of his love triangle with wife Bianca Wu and mistress Sharon Chan in the drama, and at the same time expressed an excitement acting against many notable actors. When asked to point out some characteristics of a charming man, Michael stated an attractive demeanor will definitely be advantageous, but a good personality, attitude, and broad vision are more crucial. Michael also encouraged the finalists to show their true selves and shine through with their unique personality on stage as the way to winning the judges' hearts.

Next up, the eight Project B.P. finalists emerged as models, manifesting individuality and charisma. With an extensive on-camera experience, #1 Aidan Chan has participated in Disneyland and Hallmark channel dramas. Having a close resemblance to the young Wong He, the artiste, #2 Albert Tse has travelled all the way from Calgary to compete in Project B.P., demonstrating a strong determination to capture the championship.

With a pair of signature smiling eyes, #3 Benjamin Hsieh is a self-taught K-pop dancer whose YouTube channel is followed by 40 thousand fans. 2012 Sunshine Nation finalist and basketball coach #4 Frankie Liu leads a team of players competing in many North America basketball tournaments.

The 6 foot 2 and 16 year old #5 Harrison Wu is the youngest, yet the tallest contestant among the boyz. With a perfect physique, filmmaker #6 Jacky Weng is skilled at doing parkour and all types of pop dances.

Food lover #7 Frank Wang once suffered from obesity with a 200lb body. But a will power to eat clean and exercise on a daily basis, he has now transformed into a healthy cheerful man. #8 Carson Cheng, a courteous gentleman who enjoys every minute under the spotlight, majored in interdisciplinary performance.

In addition to Michael, renowned multiple award-winning stage drama actress from Hong Kong Bonnie Lam is also taking up major roles in the acting segment at the Final. During the press conference, Bonnie and Michael shared their acting experiences, and tips in understanding and portraying the characters.

The introduction of the finalists was followed by a group photo of the dashing gentleman Michael Tong with the eight handsome boyz. Together they were radiating infinite charm and masculinity across the venue. #8 Carson Cheng took the lead in winning the “Most Liked Award on Facebook”, as Michael presented him with the award certification.

Ten lucky fans were selected to attend the press conference, as they were given a once in a lifetime experience to take a selfie with Michael, and receive a personalized autographed gift from the star. Lastly, President of Fairchild Media Group Mr. Joe Chan presented Michael with a souvenir, and wished for a successful show.

Senior Vice President of Fairchild Radio Ms. Brenda Lo, celebrated theatre performer and director Mr. Peter Poon, Miss Chinese Vancouver 2011 Ms. Erica Chui, along with modeling instructor Ms. Jessie Li will form the judge panel for the Final on July 29th at River Rock Show Theatre to select the most unique and outstanding individual as the Project B.P. Champion.

Project Boyz Power Vancouver 2016 finalists Jack Wang, Jeffrey Leung, Angus Yam, Chris Wong, and Andoni Usubiaga guested on Leisure Talk and City Chat to share their memorable experience during the Project B.P. final last year. Both champions, Jack and Jeffrey, along with What’s On host Angus were blessed with the exciting experience of performing on the international stages in Hong Kong. Jack was offered a contract by Shaw Brothers (Hong Kong) Limited in March and officially launched his career in the entertainment industry. Last year’s Project Boyz Power Vancouver organized by Fairchild Television in collaboration with TVB received overwhelming responses and positive feedbacks. TVB management team members Felix To, Virginia Lok and Sandy Yu especially made a trip to Vancouver to select a group of aspiring individuals with the most potential to develop a career in Asia. Project B.P. not only provided young gentlemen with a platform to showcase their talents and unleash their passions, but also gave them a chance to embark on a journey to fame.

One of the Champions Jack Wang forwent the opportunity to compete in Mr. Hong Kong Contest for school but was later offered a contract by Shaw Brothers (Hong Kong) Limited and officially launched his career in the entertainment industry in March. Jack’s first project is to film “Flying Tiger” with TV and movie stars Bosco Wong, Ron Ng, Michael Wong, and Hugo Ng.

Another Project B.P. Champion, Jeffrey Leung, went straight into the Final of Mr. Hong Kong Contest while his fellow contestant at Project B.P. Andoni Usubiaga also travelled to Hong Kong and competed in the same competition, both earning memorable and precious performance experience.

As one of the most talented finalists, Angus Yam’s melodic voice entirely captivated the audience at the Project B.P. Final. For him to compete in the 2016 TVB International Chinese New Talent Singing Championship as a Vancouver delegate was no surprise at all. Aside from hosting What’s On, Angus has also participated in a variety of events including a rendition of Leslie Cheung's classic numbers with a symphony orchestra at Taiwan Fest, and participating in a drama production by the renowned theatre performer and director Mr. Peter Poon. Last but not least, the winner of the Most Stylish New Star Award, Matthew Chan is attending the TVB acting class after finishing his Theatre Program Major in Vancouver and is ready to put knowledge into his profession.

The first ever Project Boyz Power has ended on a high note. This year, Fairchild TV will collaborate with TVB again to launch Project Boyz Power Vancouver 2017. The finalists will receive professional training in all aspects including stage, dance, acting and modeling. The champion will be offered a trip to Hong Kong and participate in an audition at TVB. Whether you are born to be a star, or train hard to find your niche, as long as you are aged 16 or above with a passion for performance, Project Boyz Power will be a great opportunity that must not be missed! Last year’s success has inspired the finalists and paved a way for them to embark on a miraculous journey. It is time for you to seize the opportunity and take your first step!
